14 chicken rice stalls in Singapore you don’t want to miss!

Chicken rice is considered one of the National dish here in Singapore. It is one of the ubiquitous dishes found in Hawker centers, coffee shops, or even restaurants. There are various kinds of chicken such as steamed/poached, roasted, or soy sauce.

1) Chin Chin Eating House

Famous for their Hainanese Chicken Rice in Singapore, we had the Steamed chicken, Hainanese Pork Chop, Kang Kong, and Thai Style Tofu. The chicken was really tender and drizzled with light soy sauce. The Hainanese style consists of dipping sauces such as the minced ginger, chili, and dark soy sauce. The Hainanese Pork Chop was a little on the dry side but was so good when drizzled with the gravy.

3) Nam kee chicken rice (南记鸡饭餐室)

Nam kee chicken rice (南记鸡饭餐室) has been operating for more than 30 years and they have been serving up plates after plates of good Hainanese chicken rice. Also, they are serving up tze char dishes like the long beans I am having. Expect dining in an old school setting, aromatic chicken rice, and well-seasoned tender chicken.

4) Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice

Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice has been awarded a Michelin bib gourmand in 2019 last in Bangkok Thailand. Their first outlet is at NEX Serangoon and is opened in late 2018. We ordered the Single Portion Chicken Thigh rice which was served with their home-made chili. I was expecting this to be super good being bib gourmand but this was lackluster. The rice had the right fragrant and aroma and the chicken thigh was tender.

6) Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice

Tian Tian Chicken Rice is located at Maxwell Food centre. They’re so popular that there’s perpetually a long queue every time but thankfully the queue moves fast. hahaha. Their claim to fame perhaps was what Anthony Bourdain said: “the chicken rice was so fragrant and delicious that it could be eaten on its own”. They are also listed in the Michelin Bib Gourmand Singapore in 2016 and 2017. Their chicken drum stick was tender and their rice was fragrant and good. Not sure why people are so hyped about this but their chicken rice is definitely above average.

7) 黎记 Loy Kee Best Chicken Rice

Loy Kee Best Chicken Rice is definitely not the best but not the worst also. Really weird to have such a well-known establishment here in a neighborhood area in Woodlands. Hardly any crowd during lunchtime. I think they closed their outlet in Woodlands. Their Loy Kee special set costs $9 but it is really scrumptious and affordable. For that price point, you get Chinese cabbages and 3 kinds of sauces for you to dip your chicken in. I added braised egg too.

Address: 342 Balestier Rd, Singapore 329774

Opening Hours: 10am — 9.30pm daily

Delivery: Deliveroo, Grabfood, Foodpanda

8) Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice 威南记

I think Wee Nam Kee is definitely overrated. I won’t say it’s bad but maybe above average? The roasted chicken seems like the must-order there seeing many tables eating that so we decided to order the same. This outlet doesn’t just sell chicken rice though, they also have dumplings and tze char staples such as omelet, pork, fish, crab, and vegetables. I really like the dumplings 🥟 and their rice is not bad Though. It’s aromatic and not overly greasy. 🐔

Wee Nam Kee also have affordable set meals such as a chicken set ($7.50/$8.30), drumstick set ($8.30/$9.10), bbq pork set ($7.50/$8.30), and roasted pork set ($7.50/$8.30). The cheaper one comes with Oyster vegetables while the pricier one comes with dumpling soup. If I were you, I would choose the dumplings. How can I resist those fat and loaded dumplings?

10) Master Chicken (Kim Keat Palm Market & Food Centre)

One of the better chicken rice store at Toa Payoh. Tender chicken drumstick and wing with fragrant rice, soup, and dark soy sauce and ginger for you to dip your chicken in.

11) Sin Kee Famous Cantonese Chicken Rice

Sin Kee Famous Cantonese Chicken Rice, like their name suggests, cooks their chicken Cantonese style. How is it that their chicken breast meat 🥩 🐔 is so tender? Their chicken is cooked Cantonese-style which is to plunge the chicken into icy water to curb the cooking process, resulting in smoother skin with the jelly-like layer beneath. This is the best!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 No wonder they have awarded a Michelin bib gourmand in 2019. 实至名归!

Opening Hours: 9am — 8.30pm

12) Yishun 925 Hainanese Chicken Rice

Definitely one of the above-average chicken rice out there and maybe the best in Yishun! Think 🤔 tender chicken drumstick and fragrant rice. The rice is grain by grain and not sticky at all. We call this 粒粒分明 in Chinese. I also love to dip the chicken and drizzle my rice with the dark soy sauce! ✨

13) Lee Fun Nam Kee Chicken Rice And Restaurant

This is probably the most famous chicken rice store in Toa Payoh. Like who else has their own restaurant selling only chicken rice in Toa Payoh? Their signature dish is their soy sauce chicken.

The sauce for their signature soy sauce chicken was thick, good, and flavorful, however the meat needs to be more tender. The char siew and roast pork were crunchy and good! The rice was okay and fragrant. The restaurant was spacious and airy with fans keeping the place cooling, instead of air conditioning. They also have islandwide delivery here.

Address: 94 Lor 4 Toa Payoh, #01–04, Singapore 310094

Opening Hours: 11am–3pm, 5–9pm

Delivery: Deliveroo, Grabfood

14) Ming Kee Chicken Rice

Ming Kee Chicken Rice should be well-known in Bishan by now. Their method of cooking the chicken is the same as Sin Kee Famous Cantonese Chicken Rice. The chicken is super tender but the rice still has room for improvement.
