REVIEW: TIPO PASTA BAR — HALAL PASTA OPTION
Truly a hidden gem at North Bridge Road, I didn’t even know this place exist until we googled what’s nearby Bugis+ when plans to dine at Omurice Keisuke fell through. The interior was dimly lit and narrow. It seems like they are kind of busy.. and had reservations that night. We had to wait a while to get a seat. If you know me, you will know that I am a huge pasta lover and I love to customize mine to my liking!
Tipo 00, also known as “doppio zero” or “granero tero” originates from Italy. It is a type of wheat flour that is smooth and almost silky to the touch. Tipo is all about the celebration of artisan produce. Their pasta is handmade from scratch and they usually have a few kinds of pasta for customers to choose from. I chose the Pappardelle which was a flat, broad pasta.
This is how you build your own pasta:
1) Choose a Size: Regular and Grande
2) Choose your sauce: Aglio Olio, Alfredo, Pomodoro, Roasted red pepper, Beef Ragu
3) Free Toppings: Chili Flakes, Extra Virgin olive oil, shaved Parmesan
4) Basic Toppings (+$1 each): Argula, Caramelized tomatoes, cured capers, kalamanta olives
5) Classic Toppings (+$2 each): Crumbled Gouda, Mixed Zucchini, Ricotta Cheese, Sous Vide Egg
Truffle Olive Oil, White Button Mushrooms
6) Premium Toppings (+$3 each): Black Caviar, Black Truffle Paste, King Oyster Mushroom
Pickle-brined Chicken Breast, Salt Cured Egg Yolks, Sautéed Prawns
The result was this delicious Alfredo pasta. This plate of pasta had a strong truffle aroma and taste. The sous vide egg when mixed made the Alfredo even creamier. The pickle-brined chicken breast was lost in all the truffle but was tender nonetheless. I liked how everything came together well. :)
In addition, to make your own pasta, you can order their recommended combinations, desserts, and drinks. They’re also halal certified so Muslim friends can enjoy this as well. The nearest MRT station is Bugis, Lavender, and Jalan Besar. It’s kind of in-between.
